About this place

Every autumn the wide fields of Gwangsa-dong in Yangju are carpeted in magenta, pink and white. Nari Farm is known as the largest colony of globe amaranth in Korea, and between late September and mid-October each year it hosts a globe amaranth festival. Close to northern Seoul, it makes an easy trip to see autumn flowers.

The flower that stays red for a thousand days

Globe amaranth flowers for a long season from summer into autumn. Its Korean name, cheonilhong, means "red for a thousand days", and true to the name its colour hardly fades even when the flowers are cut and dried. It has long stood for unchanging love, and it is widely used as a dried flower and for flower tea. The small round heads come in purple, red, pink, white, yellow, orange and violet, and each colour carries its own meaning in the language of flowers.

From small farm to signature festival

Nari Farm began as a small hands-on farm and has grown year after year. The festival, once called the "Ten Million Globe Amaranth Festival", reached its seventh edition in 2025. That autumn, 28 kinds of autumn flowers were planted alongside the globe amaranth, and the farm was open for 45 days, from 12 September to 26 October. In 2026 it was relaunched as the Yangju Globe Amaranth Autumn Festa, with performances and activities on weekends from late September to early October. In spring the farm sometimes opens briefly for free with fields of green barley and rapeseed.

What to see

  • Globe amaranth fields: the low carpet of flowers stretching away across the fields is the heart of the farm. The plots are arranged by colour, so you can pick your backdrop.
  • Other autumn flowers: yellow blooms, cosmos and fluffy summer cypress fill the gaps between the globe amaranth.
  • Windmill and pinwheels: a red windmill and brightly coloured pinwheels serve as photo spots around the fields.
  • Activities and market: during the festival there are globe amaranth crafts, cart tours of the fields and a market for local produce.

What the colours mean

It adds to the fun to know the meaning of each colour of globe amaranth as you wander the fields:

  • Magenta: eternity, a love that never changes
  • Red: love and passion
  • Pink: love and affection
  • White: purity and truth
  • Yellow: happiness and joy
  • Orange: energy and hope
  • Purple: friendship and bonds

Tripto tips

  • Best time: late September to mid-October, when the flowers are at their fullest. Opening dates and festival programmes change every year, so check the official website before you go.
  • Time needed: 1–2 hours to wander the fields and take photos.
  • Fees: there is an entry fee during the autumn season. In 2025 it was KRW 7,000 for adult visitors from outside Yangju, with KRW 5,000 refunded as a coupon for use at the farm and nearby shops; Yangju residents pay less. Prices and the refund scheme may change from year to year.
  • Getting there: roads around the farm get very congested on festival weekends, so public transport is recommended. The farm is about 4 km from Yangju Station on Line 1; change to a city bus or taxi there.
  • Practical: there is almost no shade in the fields, so bring a hat and water on sunny days. Please stay on the paths and do not walk into the flower beds.
  • Combine it with: the Korea National Arboretum is about 8 km away (advance booking required).
