About this place

Yuldong Park wraps around a reservoir tucked among low wooded hills on the eastern edge of Bundang, Seongnam. The lakeside path is about 2.5 km long and takes around 40 minutes at an easy pace, with lawns, a book-themed garden and a reed bed along the way. It is a local weekend spot rather than a big sight: come for a slow walk by the water and a rest on the grass.

From reservoir to park

The lake at its centre is the Bundang Reservoir, originally built for irrigation. Seongnam City began work on the park in December 1996 and opened it at the end of August 1999. Of the roughly 2.64 km² site, about 0.31 km² was landscaped for visitors. The water covers some 135,000 m², and a walking path and cycle lane follow its shore.

The name comes from the character yul (栗), meaning chestnut: the area was long known as a village full of chestnut trees. The park also has a memorial to the March 1st Independence Movement of 1919 in Seongnam, worth a short detour from the lakeside path.

What to see on a walk

  • Lake loop: a flat mix of boardwalk and dirt path, easy with a pushchair or small children. Ducks gather along the shore, and in spring and autumn the hills are mirrored in the water.
  • Lawns: several wide lawns where families spread out picnic mats.
  • Book Theme Park: a section with book-inspired sculptures and exhibition spaces; the Book Theme Park Library opened inside it in November 2022.
  • Reed bed and seasonal flower hill: reeds grow in a marshy corner of the lake and the hillside flowers change through the year. Autumn afternoons, when the low sun lights up the reeds, are the best time for this stretch.
  • Sports facilities: a climbing wall, a traditional archery range and badminton courts make the park a local exercise spot too.

The bungee tower that is gone

Many Koreans still picture Yuldong Park with a bungee tower rising over the lake. Built in 1999, the 45 m tower was the tallest in the country until a 62 m one opened at Cheongpung Land in Jecheon. It stopped operating around 2018 and was taken down at the end of 2024, so the blue steel tower you may see in older photos and travel blogs no longer exists, and the lake view is more open.

The park has also been used as a location for TV variety shows, dramas and films, which is why some of its benches and lawns may look familiar.

Tripto tips

  • Time needed: allow 40 minutes to an hour for the lake loop, or 1–2 hours with a picnic and the Book Theme Park. Late afternoon, when the western sky reflects in the water, is especially pleasant.
  • Best seasons: April for cherry blossoms and fresh green, October–November for autumn colour and reeds. Some stretches have little shade, so bring a hat in summer.
  • Getting there: the easiest way is to take the Suin–Bundang Line to Seohyeon Station and continue by bus or taxi. The address is 145 Munjeong-ro, Bundang-gu, Seongnam.
  • Parking: there are several car parks, and a new C car park opened at the end of July 2026. Spring and autumn weekend afternoons still get busy, so arrive in the morning if you can.
  • Good to know: there is a dog park, so plenty of visitors come with their dogs, and the streets around the park are lined with cafés and restaurants.
