About this place
This cable car crosses 2.12 km of open sea between Jeongok Port in Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong, and Jebudo Island. Its name, Seohaerang, combines the characters for islet (seo), sea (hae) and wave (rang). At low tide endless mudflats stretch out below you, at high tide the water turns blue, and at dusk you watch the sun set over the Yellow Sea from the air. It was named one of the Korea Tourism 100 for 2025–2026.
A sky road instead of a sea road
Jebudo is linked to the mainland by a road across the seabed that only opens twice a day when the tide goes out. If the tide is wrong you cannot drive in, but the cable car runs above the water regardless. That means you can still reach the island for a walk, and come back, while the sea road is under water.
Cabins and views
- Standard and crystal cabins: the crystal cabins have a glass floor, so you see the mudflats and waves directly beneath your feet.
- Mudflat patterns: at low tide, tidal channels snake across the mud and are sharply visible from above. At high tide the pylons seem to stand in the middle of the sea.
- Jeongok Station: you set off above the rows of yachts in Jeongok Marina. The cable car stations also have places to linger, such as a café, a rooftop terrace and an art gallery.
- Jebu Station: step out and your island walk begins. The Jebudo shore with its red lighthouse, the Jebi Kkori-gil ("swallow's tail") path, a walkway over the water and an outdoor art park can all be explored on foot.
Around Jeongok and Jebudo
Jeongok is one of the main yacht marinas on the west coast. On the harbour side, a coastal viewing path leads past the layered volcanic tuff of the Jeongok Port stratified tuff formation. Add Tando Port and Nueseom Island, just across the water on the Daebudo side of Ansan, and you have a full day on this stretch of coast.
Timing the sunset
The cable car is busiest, and at its best, around sunset. The website's front page shows that day's sunset time; arrive about an hour earlier and you will see the sky change colour while you queue and ride. If sunset coincides with low tide, the red light reflects in the channels across the mudflats. If you want a cabin to yourselves without queuing, a premium cabin for up to ten people costs KRW 250,000 (standard).
Tripto tips
- Opening hours: weekdays 09:00–19:00, weekends and public holidays 09:00–20:00. Ticket sales end one hour before closing, and strong winds can stop the service or close it early without notice.
- Fares (return): standard cabin adults KRW 22,000, children KRW 18,000; crystal cabin adults KRW 25,000, children KRW 20,000. A one-way standard ticket for adults costs KRW 19,000. Children's fares apply from 36 months to the end of primary school. A speed pass that skips the queue costs KRW 40,000 (standard).
- Which end to board: the access road to Jeongok Station is steep, so if walking is difficult, board at Jebu Station, which also has the larger car park.
- Best time: ride about an hour before sunset to see the mudflats and the sunset together. Queues get long on weekend afternoons, so buying tickets online in advance saves time.
- Time needed: about 1 hour for the return ride, 2–3 hours with a walk along the Jebudo shore.
- Getting there: public transport is awkward, so driving is easiest. Jeongok Station is at 1-10 Jeongokhang-ro, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong. If you plan to drive onto Jebudo across the sea road, check the crossing times published by Hwaseong City first.
