About this place
At the Ganhyeon tourist area in Jijeong-myeon, Wonju, Sogeumsan Grand Valley strings a suspension bridge, a cliff walk, an observation tower and a second, longer bridge along the cliffs of Sogeumsan, where the Seomgang River and the Samsancheon stream curl around the mountain. The Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge, opened in 2018, was such a hit that new attractions followed one after another, and a cable car opened in February 2025. Crossing bridges above the river and the rock faces is the whole point, so if you enjoy heights it is easily worth a full day.
Five attractions on one route
- Cable car: it carries you up over the Seomgang and the cliffs. Choose the cable-car route if you want to skip the steep climb.
- Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge: a mountain footbridge 100 m high and 200 m long. More than 4 million people have crossed it since it opened, making it Wonju's best-known sight.
- Deck trail: about 700 m of boardwalk continuing from the suspension bridge.
- Sogeum Cliff Walk and Sky Tower: a 360 m walkway hung on a cliff 200 m above the ground, just below the summit. The Sky Tower at its end looks over the Samsancheon as it bends around the mountain.
- Sogeumsan Ulleong Bridge: at 404 m, twice the length of the first bridge. Its name plays on ulleong, the fluttery feeling you get crossing it, and part of the middle section has a see-through floor.
A mountain escalator added in 2024 makes getting up and down much easier, and there is also an indoor exhibition space, the Sogeumsan Media Art Centre.
The Naora Show at night
The Naora Show uses the cliffs of Sogeumsan as its stage. A musical fountain on the river shoots jets up to 60 m, and a media facade 250 m wide and 70 m high is projected onto the natural rock face, telling the Wonju folk tale of the grateful pheasant. In 2026 it runs from 25 April to 31 October on Saturdays and public holidays, 19:50–21:00, with a break in July and August. It may be cancelled in bad weather.
The grateful pheasant and more
The grateful pheasant of the media facade is a legend from Chiaksan in Wonju. A scholar saves a pheasant from a serpent, then finds himself threatened by the serpent in turn, and the pheasants save him by striking a temple bell with their heads. The very name Chiaksan is linked to this story.
- Net Adventure: a play structure made of nets, open April to October. For ages 7 and up and at least 120 cm tall; adults KRW 3,000, children KRW 2,000.
- Glamping: stay overnight at the phytoncide glamping site in the Ganhyeon area and you can see the evening Naora Show without rushing.
