About this place
The heart of Geoje Botanic Garden is the Jungle Dome, a glass dome 30 m high covering 4,468 m². Often described as the largest single greenhouse in Korea, it packs in more than 300 species and around 10,000 tropical plants, with a waterfall pouring down beneath the glass roof. On a rainy day or in midwinter, this is Geoje's best indoor escape, and T-shirt weather inside.
A glass dome in the countryside
The garden sits inside the Geoje Agricultural Development Center in Geoje-myeon. National, provincial and city funds totalling KRW 28 billion paid for the tropical greenhouse and an outdoor ecological pond, and it opened in January 2020. The dome is made of 7,472 panes of glass, and sunlight falls through the steel lattice onto the jungle below. Visitor numbers have kept climbing since the opening, and in 2025 the garden was named one of the government's "Korea Tourism 100" destinations.
Inside the Jungle Dome
- 10 m waterfall and rock valley: water tumbles down a cliff into a valley designed with the mythical paradise of Mureung in mind. It is the most photographed corner of the dome.
- Blackboard tree: a large tropical tree presented as 300 years old, the dome's signature specimen.
- Skywalk and viewing deck: an elevated walkway lets you look down on the forest from treetop height.
- Cactus garden and Cave of Light: dry-climate plants and an illuminated cave round off the route.
Outside the dome
Outdoors, a water garden, a four-season garden and the Jungle Village hold about 20,000 plants of some 90 species. In 2024 the Jintrium wetland hall opened, where more than 40 species of mosses and ferns grow in a mist-filled space. For children, the Jungle Tower has a giant slide billed as the biggest in Korea.
Next to the garden there is a café, and hands-on classes cover houseplant care, mini terrariums and seokbujak, the Korean craft of growing wind orchids on stone. Check the garden's website for dates.
